Sri Lanka Cricket officially announced its support of the controversial International Cricket Council (ICC) reforms proposal through a media release.
The Executive committee of the body met to discuss the revised position paper presented in the last meeting of the ICC board in Singapore.
The members unanimously decided to back the proposal which will hand over the control of the governing body of the game to the three most powerful boards consisting India, England and Australia.
“The Executive Committee met today at SLC headquarters to converse regarding the revised resolutions forwarded by the ICC at the ICC Board meeting held on February 8 in Singapore,” the SLC said.
“Subsequent to the committee members assessing the revised resolutions in detail, all members were satisfied with the amendments made in the areas of governance and competition models and thus unanimously decided to support the paper.”
According to ESPNcricinfo, the secretary of the Sri Lankan board Nishantha Ranatunga claimed that his country would not be isolated despite initially resisting the takeover by the ‘Big Three’.
“Since we have been very clear and precise in our communications, they are respecting us,” he said. “They all respect our views and we have a better understanding among each other.”
Ranatunga added that for the next seven years Sri Lanka is likely to get an income of $60 million from bilateral tours, including series with the three leading cricket nations.
“When you calculate, a series with these three countries will bring us a revenue of $47-48 million. If we are going to object to their proposals, our cricket is going to suffer,” Ranatunga said.
He added that the stance by Sri Lanka was borne out of necessity considering the future of cricket.
“People who talk about principles and all that will not give us the money. We have to make money from these tours.”

@Faisal: Look who is lecturing about morality and ethics. Seems like ball eating happens due to poverty & hunger only. And spot fixing is name of some Bollywood spot boy. Hahaha.
@Faisal: Since this debate started, I am looking for morals, ethics and principles. Please mention where they are hiding? I have heard everyone talking about them but nobody tells what are they?
The people who do not believe in morals and ethics will never understand Pakistan's position. Both SA and SL can bow to the big three but Pakistan stands tall. Besides, it is just a matter of time before cricket starts to die in associate members and then in the "small seven". In a decades time, the world cup will be held between the big three only.
LOL! Feel bad for Pakistan thoug...first it was SA & now Sri Lanka!
“People who talk about principles and all that will not give us the money. We have to make money from these tours.”
