Energy: 1,141 gas thieves caught

SNGPL has been losing gas worth Rs65 million every month in Sialkot region.

SIALKOT: Special task forces of the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited have caught 1,141 people gas thieves and have fined them Rs620 million in one month.

Cases have been registered against 81 people during the ongoing campaign in Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad and Gujranwala districts. They said the suspects included factory owners, industrialists and owners of CNG stations. The SNGPL had been losing gas worth Rs65 million every month in Sialkot region. Of this, Rs33 million worth of gas had been wasted every month due to leaks in its gas pipelines.
