Pakistan defeat PNG in U19 World Cup

Boys in green make comeback after India loss.

Pakistan won a crucial Group A match against Papua New Guinea in the U19 World Cup played in Dubai Monday.

Openers Imam-ul-Haq and captain Sami Aslam put on 125 runs for the first wicket – their second successive century partnership as Pakistan posted 283 for eight in 50 overs.

Imam the left-handed opener top scored with 88 off 117 balls, his innings included nine fours, while Sami hit 10 fours in a 78-ball 62.

PNG was dismissed for 138 in 30.5 overs with opener Kiplin Doriga scoring a 56-ball 51 that included three fours and a six.

For Pakistan, left-arm spinner Zafar Gohar was the pick of the bowlers claiming four wickets while fast bowler Zia-ul-Haq took two for 26.

Meanwhile, in a major upset, Afghanistan defeated three-time champions Australia by 36 runs.
