Medical improvements: Lahore General Hospital turns 55 on Sunday

PGMI Principal Dr Anjum Habib Vohra mentions LGH’s significant role during the struggle against dengue fever.

It has been 55 years since the Lahore General Hospital was established in 1959. It was inaugurated by the then West Pakistan Governor Akhtar Hussain.

“This hospital has made comprehensive progress and improvement in all departments, especially neuro-surgery. Due to the hospital’s reputation for expertise in neuro-surgery, most cases of head injuries in road accidents from all over the country are referred to us”, Post-Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) Principal Dr Anjum Habib Vohra said on Sunday.

Vohra also mentioned the LGH’s significant role during the struggle against dengue fever. He added that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had taken landmark steps to expand and develop the LGH into a state-of-the-art hospital.

“The LGH has become well known on the national and international level for medical education, especially specialised medical courses. Training workshops for doctors, nurses and paramedics are being conducted regularly” Vohra said.

Vohra said he had resolved to develop the LGH into the city’s best hospital, by improving all treatment areas. He said the LGH was a hospital for poor and middle class citizens, and all diagnostic and medical facilities were available through one-rupee tokens.

Vohra said that with the commencement of the Institute of Neurology, the LGH would see further improvements.
