Tightening the noose: Home dept constitutes anti-corruption committee

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Home and Tribal Affairs Department has constituted an anti-corruption committee for its attached departments.

A notification issued from the home department on Saturday stated they have created a committee for the reformation of the regulatory mechanism and misuse of power. The committee will be headed by the home department’s Additional Political Secretary Khalid Abbas, and will include focal persons of all attached departments.

According to the notification, the terms of reference of the committee are to monitor procurement and financial affairs, and to educate public authorities, office holders, and the community at large on measures to combat corruption.

The committee will also examine the current laws, regulations relating to the provincial government along with conduct of office holders, and will then recommend amendments.

“It will conduct enquires on complaints, or assign the same task to officials of the attached departments, who will be liable to submit an enquiry report within a specified time period,” the notification reads.

Meanwhile, the home department has imposed a ban on motorcycle riding for Sunday (today).

A notification issued on Saturday stated that foolproof security arrangements have been made for providing security to vaccination teams, whereas the security situation will be monitored at the provincial monitoring cell.

Security has been beefed up, with increased police patrols and commandos deployed at sensitive locations.
