Damage control: Inquiry launched over doctors’ kidnapping

Pervez Khattak orders judicial inquiry over kidnapping of doctors after meeting with community of health workers.

PESHAWAR: On request of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government, a judicial inquiry on the rising number of doctors’ kidnapping cases in the province has been launched, with district and sessions judge Shaiber Khan as inquiry officer. Dr Amjad Taqweem and Dr Mujahid Bangash were abducted a few days after the provincial doctors association protested against the failure of the government to protect the doctors. The K-P government approached the judiciary to appoint a senior judge to initiate inquiry of the cases and prepare a comprehensive report, which district and sessions judge Shaiber Khan has been tasked with. On January 29, Chief Minister Pervez Khattak ordered a judicial inquiry over the kidnapping of the doctors after a meeting with the community of health workers.
