Lawyers’ protection: Suspects flee court after bail denial

Counsel and his associates shielded suspects when police tried to arrest them.

LAHORE: A group of lawyers helped eight robbery suspects escape police custody on Monday after a Lahore High Court judge dismissed their bail applications. Police arrested one of the men trying to flee. They had charged nine men with injuring a citizen during a robbery. The suspects’ counsel had asked for pre-arrest bail. He argued that police had implicated the petitioners in a fabricated case. He said the police had no evidence against them and the medical report submitted by the complainant was also fabricated. The court dismissed the petition in view of police evidence. The counsel and his associates shielded the suspects when police tried to arrest them.
