Fahad Aziz, who is associated with the MQM, was travelling from his home in Korangi to the wedding in Orangi. The wedding convoy had boarded the Shah Faisal Bridge when members of law enforcement agencies intercepted them and whisked away the groom, and a second MQM worker who was driving his car.
The groom’s father said that officials arrived in three vans. Some of the personnel were in plainclothes while others were in police uniforms.
Concerned police officials, including Shah Faisal SP Ali Asif initially denied any knowledge of the incident. However, later AIG Shahid Hayat admitted that Fahad was in their custody and had been arrested on suspicion of involvement in a number of cases.
After the family’s attempt to trace whereabouts of the groom proved unsuccessful, they resorted to staging a protest outside the Karachi Press Club.
Change biased police command in 24 hours
Later, MQM leaders Wasay Jalil and Amir Khan addressed the media outside the press club where they demanded that Fahad should immediately be released and that in 24 hours the top “biased” command of police should be changed.
Jalil added that the groom had no outstanding warrants against him, nor had been nominated in any police report. He further revealed that Fahad was an MQM candidate for the upcoming local government elections.
The MQM leader further said that they were trying to manage the fresh grief of extrajudicial killing of two of its workers, when this incident occurred.
Jalil added that along with Fahad, another MQM worker, Rehan Qureshi, had been taken away by law enforcement agencies.
He added that MQM was appealing to President, Prime Minister, Governor, Chief Minister DG Rangers to look into the matter.

@LiberalPak...yes police has right to arrest with arrest warrant...but they have no right to torture the arrested person to get the desired confessional statement
@John: @Such Bolta Hoon: Fahad Aziz, who is associated with the MQM, was travelling from his home in Korangi to the wedding in Orangi.
ET omitted the fact that he was the groom, not just travelling to a wedding in Orangi, It is 'disappointing and shameful' to judge without having to read
@Aysha M: Last I checked, there was no immunity for a groom under any local or international laws,IF he has been involved in a crime.
@ Ayesha M For haven's sake he is the groom with a possiblity of involvement in irregular activities.( I am not listing these irregularities / activities as the court has to decide that). However it is not only dissappointing but shameful that people like you are just brain washed and one sided.
i must say the girl is really lucky ... she got rid of MQM worker
@Aysha M You wrote; "Nothing has changed." I have said altogether all the time. "Nothing has changed. Nothing will change". Not until people will change themselves. They need to change their outlook and bad habits. People love to sleep. Do they not? When people sleep the thieves and robbers are active. True? People need to wake up. Wake up to organise their own People' Co-operative Consultative Committees in every locality, every qusbah, every qiryah. If they do not, they will get only one thing in return of their inaction. They will get what they deserve. SLAVERY. Slavery is the price people are paying for their inaction by ignoring Lord's command which is " Come to rally round Me so that you can unite". Where do people need to go to unite. Nowhere other than the locality, where they live.
I understand that LEs have the right to arrest but do they only use this right for MQM workers. They have to be unbiased. For God's sake he was going for his Wedding. We have seen Police arresting thousands of people with no or very little result. Do we have a total of how many people have been arrested by Police and Rangers since the operation started? The only solution is to have Local Police. Police Chief of karachi should be selected/elected by people of Karachi only.Police recruitment should be in proportion to the ethnicity breakdown of people of Karachi. Then only we can see some positive results.
Very interesting! That's why MQM's Lifetime Leader lives in London despite being part of almost very government during the last 2 decades. MQM's Dr Ishratul Ebad remains Governor of a province for 11.2 years, a unique record in Pakistan! I wonder how these criminal suspects will fulfill article-62 & 63 requirements?
Fahad Aziz, who is associated with the MQM, was travelling from his home in Korangi to the wedding in Orangi. For heaven's sake he is the groom
If he is the real culprit then police saved the life of the bride along with many others in Karachi. Allah humari Qaum ko Hidayat de
It is great to see MQM supporting and showing solidarity with their worker, a groom not considered ready enough to proceed with his wedding party by the LEAs. The top tier leadership, both RC members and MNAs were present on site to protest this extra-legal arrest. My concern is that with MQM struggling for the past 3 decades and we the people of Karachi voting for them for the last three decades nothing at all has changed, particularly about policing of the metropolis. LEAs continue to harass Karachites, arrest people in the most unbecoming manner, use abusive language, casual hitting is a norm, and kill at will. There is perhaps no comparison in the number of extra judicial killings that take place in Karachi with any other part of the country. Nothing has changed. Police operate beyond the authority of law all the time. May it be the abduction of Oama Qadri a former MNA of Karchi or an ordinary worker or for that matter an apolitical Karchite, the high handedness of police continues. The way police behaves betrays their contempt for the people they are supposedly policing. Karachi’s representatives get told off by the police and barred from entering certain areas. No other metropolis in the world has police imported for them. It has to be local policing otherwise there is no stopping to such mindless arrests as that of last night. Next elections I vote for whoever gets me local policing and no Shahid Hayat Khan coming from outside Karachi for my protection and safety
Its simple do the crime,do the time. And if MQM is whining about the current Police leadership,i'd say give it to Shoaib Suddle,
ET! It's one sided news item focusing on MQM stance only. To make it balanced report, you need to present the views of other side too. Plz include version of Rangers and Police. Yes to fair Journalism, no to yellow one!
Local policing in Karachi is the only solution
Can Bilawal take some time off from kite flying and address this
LEs have right to arrest any one for investigation. And No party should cry for nothing. Pls Support operation against criminals and if MQM considers this operation as unfair, they can go to courts. Importantly, Governor Ishratulibad is still on seat. So MQM is also part of Govt.
