Infrastructure: Sewerage system to be revamped

The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has constituted a special task force to revamp the sewage system in Faisalabad, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Noorul Amin Mengal said on Saturday.


Talking to the media at WASA’s office in Ghulam Muhammadabad, the DCO said Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) had donated modern machinery worth Rs924.5 million to the WASA.

He said the machinery would be used to revamp the sewage system in the city.

“WASA should now come up to the expectations of the people of Faisalabad,” he said.

WASA Managing Director Syed Zahid Aziz said the JICA had donated seven dumpers, two vehicle-mounted cranes, two section machines, eight jet machines, four backhoes and nine pumps.




MNA Haji Akram Ansari and MPA Haji Ilyas Ansari were also present on the occasion.

Later, the DCO accompanied by MNA Haji Akram Ansari visited the Expo Centre construction site at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) and directed the site contractor to complete the work in time.

Agricultural Policy Centre to be set up at UAF

“An Agricultural Policy Centre will be set up at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) to give recommendations to the government on policy matters,” UAF Vice Chancellor Iqrar Ahmad Khan said on Saturday.

Addressing a meeting, Khan said the Finance and Planning Committee at the university had approved the centre.

He said the Agricultural Policy Centre would help policy makers effectively address issues related to agriculture and food security in the country. “The centre will focus on water scarcity, climate change and ways to avert their impact on agriculture… it will also focus on biotechnology and precision agriculture,” he said.The UAF VC said stakeholders, scientists, and poliy-makers should work together to ensure food security.

Social Services Additional Secretary Umar Usman, Agricultural Department Planning Deputy Secretary Muhammad Naeem Khalid, UAF Registrar Chaudhry Muhammad Hussain and Treasurer Umar Saeed Qadri were also present on the occasion.
