A third in line: K-P proposes April date for LG polls

K-P Advocate Gen says provincial govt filed separate application for extension of polling date in Peshawar registry.

ISLAMABAD:

Authorities in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa took a leaf from the book of Punjab and Sindh’s government on Friday when its officials signalled their inability to hold local government elections in the month of February.

The K-P government has proposed that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) hold the LG elections in three phases. The first phase, according to the K-P government, ought to be held in the last week of April.

In view of the K-P proposal, the ECP on Friday moved an application in the Supreme Court, requesting it to allow the extension of the date for  holding LG elections in the province till the last week of April.

K-P Advocate General Latif Yousufzai has also said the provincial government filed a separate application regarding the extension of the polling date in SC’s Peshawar registry.
