Targeting uniform: Policeman killed, passerby injured

Official says all entry and exit routes of city were closed following shooting but no one was arrested.

BANNU: A police official was gunned down and a pedestrian injured by armed motorcyclists in Bannu on Friday afternoon. City police official Amir Rukhsar said head constable Samiullah, deployed at the district security branch, was on his way to a mosque to offer Friday prayers when two masked militants travelling on a motorbike approached him near Chowk Bazaar and opened fire, injuring both the constable and a pedestrian passing by. The militants then managed to escape. The official added the head constable succumbed to his injuries while the wounded pedestrian whose name could not be ascertained was taken to DHQ hospital. The official said all entry and exit routes of the city were closed following the shooting but no one was arrested.
