DIB delegation: Dar keen to promote Islamic banking

GoP and DIB would work to achieve fundamental objective of promoting Islamic banking, besides increasing cooperation.

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar while addressing a delegation of Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB), led by its CEO Dr Adnan Chilwan, expressed the hope that the Government of Pakistan and DIB would work closely to achieve the fundamental objective of promoting Islamic banking, besides increasing cooperation to facilitate trade and investment. “The government is keen to promote Islamic banking and has recently constituted a steering committee to fast track the work on its promotion,” Dar added, saying foreign exchange reserves of the country would be increased to double digits by March. Chilwan said DIB was keen to work closely with Pakistan, particularly towards the promotion of Islamic banking in the country and was ready to assist in floating Sukuk by Pakistan. “We are prepared to offer financial and technical support to the Government of Pakistan,” he added.
