Extortion tactics: Grenade lobbed at residence

House owner was reportedly receiving telephone calls from unidentified men demanding extortion money.

A hand grenade was hurled at a house in Kundi Ishaq, Daraban Kalan by unidentified men, however, the explosive did not go off.


A Daraban police official said the house of Haji Asmat Kahawar was attacked. He said police officials along with the bomb disposal squad reached the site immediately after the incident and defused the grenade.

According to the official, Haji Asmat Kahawar is a farmer and property dealer in the area. He has reportedly been receiving telephone calls for the past few days from unidentified men demanding extortion money, which Kahawar refused.

Meanwhile in Buda, DI Khan, a medical technician at a basic health unit, Javed Khan, has also been receiving calls from extortionists, said a police official at Saddar police station.

On Friday, a house was destroyed in an IED blast in Mohallah Farooqi. Yasir Abid reported to DI Khan police that he had been receiving calls by unidentified men demanding Rs3 million. The main gate of his residence was destroyed in the blast, a local police official shared, adding nobody was hurt.
