ISLAMABAD: Commerce Minister Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan said that the grant of GSP plus status by the European Union would act as a powerful weapon for Pakistan to strengthen its economy. “In the coming years, GSP Plus would be one of the most important drivers of the country’s economic development,” Khan said, while addressing the inaugural meeting of the EU-Pakistan Parliamentary group. He said that the government was committed to implementing good governance, labour and concrete environment standards which would pave the way for investments from EU nations in Pakistan. EU Ambassador to Pakistan Lars-Gunnar Wegemark said that the grant of GSP Plus shows the importance the EU attaches to its relations with Pakistan. “In addition to expanding and facilitating Pakistan’s trade with the EU, GSP Plus will also promote economic growth and create employment opportunities in Pakistan,” he added.
