Foreign know-how: ‘Pakistan can follow Brazil’s example’

Ministry welcomes cooperation in agriculture trade.

ISLAMABAD: Minister for National Food Security and Research, Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan has said that there is an enormous potential for increasing agricultural trade and enhancing cooperation in various sectors of agriculture between Pakistan and Brazil.

Bosan stated that the ministry will welcome Brazil’s cooperation and expertise in the establishment of state-of-the-art abattoirs, effective family farming and cooperation in improving beef breeds in Pakistan.



“Pakistan can use Brazil’s strategies for ensuring future food security,” he said while speaking to the Ambassador of Brazil, Alfredo Leoni.

Both dignitaries agreed to focus on food security as a major area for future collaboration.

During the course of the meeting, Leoni apprised the minister about social programmes undertaken by Brazil over the years for the betterment of small-scale farmers.

The ambassador further elucidated that through various measures like provision of financing, storage facilities, credit and ensuring access of small farmers to markets for the sale of their products, the latter have been able to increase their income and improve the quality of their livelihood.

Due to different social programmes, Brazil has been able to bring more that 30 million people out of poverty, the ambassador added.

Both officials also agreed on exploring possibilities for launching joint ventures particularly in beef and poultry industry.
