Shahid Afridi, an official of the political administration from Landikotal, said that the incident occurred in the Tabi area of the remote Bazaar Zakha Khel.
Mosam Afridi, who runs a scrap shop in the area, reported to officials that he was present outside the shop while his two sons 10-year-old Hidayat and 11-year-old Hijrat were separating iron from the scrap. A mortar shell in the scrap had then exploded, killing them both immediately.
The official added that the shop was completely destroyed from the impact of the explosion.
