Aguero scored a hat-trick in City’s FA Cup fourth-round win over Watford to take his goal tally so far this term to a remarkable 25 from 24 appearances.
Aguero is in the form of his life and shows little sign of being slowed by the calf injury that sidelined him over the Christmas period.
Since returning to fitness, Aguero has scored six times in four matches to keep City firmly in the hunt for an unprecedented quadruple trophy haul.
Although Aguero is happy to take the plaudits when he shines, he is more concerned with ensuring City finish the year with silverware.
“The important thing is the goals contribute to the team’s victories and we win titles,” he said. “I don’t have any specific goals to reach but [I want] as many as possible.”
Fifth-placed Tottenham should pose a stern test of City’s title credentials after improving quickly under new manager Tim Sherwood.
Sherwood has masterminded five wins in his six league matches in charge and his team is desperate to avenge the embarrassing 6-0 loss they suffered against City at Eastlands in November.
“Hopefully we can put it right now,” said midfielder Christian Eriksen. “Everybody wants to be 110% for this game.
“Everyone knows you have to be on your toes when you play City. We have to be at our top level and that is what we want to achieve.”
Chelsea’s champion self-belief inspires Lampard
Frank Lampard believes there is a growing self-belief within the Chelsea squad ahead of their London derby against West Ham at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues’ seventh consecutive victory in all competitions has enhanced the ever-increasing confidence at Stamford Bridge.
And Lampard insists his team-mates, who have not lost at home under Jose Mourinho in a remarkable 72 fixtures, are developing the mentality required to win silverware come the end of the season.
“There’s a good feeling around the place,” said Lampard.
“In the last couple of months we’ve found that mentality and feeling in the dressing room and we’re going out there with more confidence. We have to keep that up because the minute you drop that the results will turn, so we need to keep at it and carry on this form.”
Chelsea will have to deal quickly with life after Juan Mata, but while Lampard was full of praise for his former team-mate, he said they had the quality to cope without the Spaniard.
“Juan Mata’s an absolutely fantastic player,” said Lampard. “The difficult thing here is that there are so many brilliant players.”
Meanwhile, Newcastle United have agreed to sell Yohan Cabaye to big-spending French champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), according to widespread British media reports on Tuesday.
PSG were reported to have had a £14 million offer for the midfielder rejected on Sunday, but several media outlets, including the BBC, claim that a deal worth around £20 million has now been reached.
