The Sindh High Court has asked the employers of the maid who was raped, allegedly by one of her employers, in April last year, to file their comments by February 18.
On Monday, Justice Ghulam Sarwar Korai headed the bench that was hearing the case filed by the Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research seeking re-investigation of the rape case.
The petitioner alleged that the 13-year-old housemaid was raped twice by her employer, who later threatened to kill her. As a result, the maid tried to commit suicide by drinking phenyl but the employer brought her to Ziauddin Hospital.
On high court orders, the police registered the FIR but, in the final charge sheet, the investigation officer deliberately declared the case as ‘A class’. The judicial magistrate accepted this charge sheet.
The medico-legal examination at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre had also confirmed that the girl was subjected to sexual abuse, but crucial evidence could not be found due to lapse of time on the part of the negligent investigator.
“The IO submitted the final charge-sheet without the DNA report because the sample was deliberately not sent for forensic examination,” the petitioner alleged.
