Parachinar unrest: Residents lack provisions amidst curfew

Curfew imposed after clash between 2 rival groups, according to a political administration official.

A curfew imposed on Sunday due to a clash between two groups in Parachinar, Kurram Agency continued on Monday, creating immense problems for residents as public transport remained suspended in the area. Locals said they were unable to collect essential items like food, fuel and water with the immediate imposition of curfew. Residents of New Abadi and Mohallah Hazara, Parachinar, said they were faced with a severe water shortage which had paralysed routine life. They demanded the administration relax the curfew for a few hours daily so they can venture out for essentials. Residents stated Wapda had increased power cuts to 20 hours, further worsening the situation for them. According to a political administration official, the curfew was imposed following a clash between two rival groups and efforts were under way to resolve the dispute through a jirga.
