KARACHI: Two policemen lost their lives during an encounter while an armed forces official was injured while resisting robbery on Thursday.

DSP Iftikhar Lodhi informed The Express Tribune that the incident took place during routine snap checking. “Two unidentified armed men attacked a police mobile while the policemen performed routine snap checks,” he said. “The two men managed to escape after firing at them.”

According to Lodhi, added that head constable Javaid, son of Allah Ditta, constable Asif, son of Adul Rashid and constable Saleem were injured in the attack and were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment. However, Javaid and Asif failed to pull through while Saleem was said to be in stable condition.

“A small pool of blood some distance away from the crime scene revealed that at least one of the culprits has been injured,” said Lodhi. “We are checking all the hospitals in the vicinity for them.” The DSP added that the police have also found other clues and hope to solve the case in a couple of days.

Meanwhile, an armed forces official, Captain Ehtisham, was shot when he resisted a robbery attempt. The incident occurred near Tando Adam Sajji House at Hassan Square within the limits of Aziz Bhatti police station, revealed Lodhi. He added that two armed motorcyclists attempted to rob Ehtisham and shot him when he resisted.

Ehtisham was first shifted to a private hospital and then to PNS Shifa where he is believed to be in stable condition, said Lodhi. No case has been registered yet.
