Unidentified assailants first gunned down a couple along with their infant daughter and then torched the house to cover up the incident in Kahay area of Hangu district on Thursday morning.

Hangu DPO Iftikhar Ahmad told journalists that Saddar police were informed of a house on fire after which they rushed to the site for rescue work. He added three charred bodies – that of the owner of the house along with his wife and four-month-old daughter – were found while removing the rubble.

The DPO said the deceased were shifted to a hospital where post-mortem reports maintained they were gunned down. They were identified as Khan Wazir, his wife Menaz Bibi and their daughter Aiman.

DPO Ahmad said initial investigations revealed unidentified assailants barged into Wazir’s house and gunned the family down before setting the house on fire to cover up the incident, making it appear they were killed in the blaze. The DPO speculated they were targeted over personal enmity.
