Arson: Road construction machinery set ablaze in Mohmand

Unidentified persons set fire to road construction machinery worth Rs25 million late Friday night in Marble City, Mohmand Agency.


According to a political administration official from Lower Mohmand, the incident occurred around midnight in Aman Tabar Michni area of Ekkaghund sub-division. “Two excavators, one bulldozer and four tractors were set on fire by unidentified people,” he said.


The official added the political administration launched a search operation in the area which was ongoing till this report was filed.


The contractor building the road, Majeed Khan, told The Express Tribune he and his partner Manzar Hussain were given the contract to construct a 10-kilometre-long road in Marble City. “We had received no threats from anyone, but some locals were unhappy over the construction,” he claimed.


Mohmand Marble City is a Rs1 billion project inaugurated by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shaukatullah Khan in 2012. Raw marble will be polished in the city and then sent forward for export.
