GUJRANWALA:

A child was killed and five people were injured in Gujranwala on Thursday when a man fired shots at his in-laws following an argument.

Police said Neelum Bibi, a resident of Baghwala, had had an argument with her husband Muhammad Faryad a few days ago and left him.

She had been staying at her parents’ house.

On Thursday, police said one of Neelum’s uncles called Faryad over to try to resolve the issues between them.

They said Faryad visited them along with his friends Abdur Rashid and Muhammad Ishfaq.

Police said following an argument, Faryad started firing, killing a six-year-old on the spot. Neelum Bibi, her mother Shameem Bibi, father Muhammad Maqbool, sister Tasleem Bibi and a six-year-old nephew Umar were injured. They were taken to Civil Hospital, where doctors treating them said that they would likely survive.

Rashid and Ashfaq were arrested shortly afterwards. Faryad fled. Police said they were looking for him.
