LAHORE: Fast Bowler Umar Gul, who had initially been retained with the Test squad, was released by Pakistan Team Management on Thursday.

Team physio, Dale Naylor, who treated Gul for one week, has recommended further training for Gul at the NCA.

Umar Gul underwent knee surgery in Melbourne in May 2013 after picking up an injury during Pakistan’s tour to South Africa.

Following his release from the squad, Gul will return to Pakistan. He has been advised to participate in domestic cricket to regain Test match fitness.

I am not surprised at all because he did not look fully fit, at least not for the test matches. He still did his job as far as helping the team in winning the crucial 3rd and 4th ODI. I have a feeling they will call Ehsan Adil as a replacement.
