Police confirmed that the vehicle was carrying an explosive device, venturing on to say that terrorists were probably transporting the bomb to another place when it accidentally went off.
The blast occurred in a densely populated residential area, and had damaged a house and four quarters besides the destroying the rickshaw itself.
"Two injured people are in a critical condition and have been shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH)," an official at the local police station told The Express Tribune.
The Bomb Disposal Squad is scouring the remains of the rickshaw and is yet to provide more details on the nature of the explosion.
Four people are understood to have been injured in all, including two children.
It was intially believed that the explosion may have been caused by a gas leak, however, inspection of the blast site revealed that explosives had been used.
