Raids and arrests: Police kill two robbers and arrest one during encounter

KARACHI:

Two suspected robbers were killed while another was arrested during an alleged encounter with the police in Sohrab Goth on Monday.

According to police officials, the encounter took place in High Court Society in Sohrab Goth's industrial area when police tried to intercept the three young men riding a motorcycle. SHO Rana Haseeb claimed that the three motorcyclists were injured during cross fire after they had opened fire at the police and tried to flee. However, two of their suspects succumbed to injuries. The deceased - 25-year-old Bashir Asghar and 28-year-old Saleem Hassan - and the injured Asghar Shah were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal purposes,

Haseeb claimed that the men were professional criminals and had also been in jail several times in the past, adding that they were involved in number of cases of crime. A case has been registered while further investigations are underway. Separately, Rangers conducted targeted raids in various areas including Landhi, Pathan Colony, Lyari and Korangi. A Rangers spokesperson also claimed that a targeted raid was conducted on the hideouts of Faisal Pathan Group in Lyari's Gulistan Colony. The group has been involved n the Lyari gang war and Rangers recovered an abductee while three gang members were also arrested. The Rangers spokesperson added that a total of 17 criminals including members of banned outfits were arrested during these raids.

Pakistan Coast Guards (PCG) claim to have recovered a huge cache of narcotics during a raid on the Super Highway. According to a PCG spokesperson, PCG officials intercepted a truck after being tipped-off and recovered around 100 kilogrammes of hashish worth Rs157 million and arrested the truck driver. He added that the seized drugs were being smuggled to Karachi from Quetta.
