KHAR:

A man was killed and another injured when militants in Afghanistan allegedly fired rockets across the border at residential areas in Nawagai, Bajaur Agency on Saturday afternoon.

Political administration official Abdul Malik confirmed the incident, saying two rockets were fired around 1:45pm. The rockets landed in the residential area of Hashim Charmang village, injuring two people, he added.

The official said the men were sitting by the side of a field when a rocket exploded near them. Taj Muhammad was severely injured, and succumbed to his injuries on the way to Agency Headquarters Hospital, Khar.

Malik said the name of the second man could not be ascertained, but it is known that he was injured when a piece of shrapnel struck his leg. He was taken to a nearby private clinic and administered with first aid, following which he was said to be in stable condition.

Malik explained security forces subsequently fired rockets in retaliation in the direction where the militants had opened fire from.
