Addressing the cadets, the premier said the nation stands firmly behind the Navy. Congratulating the midshipmen cadets, he asked them to ensure that the interest of the state remains their primary goal.
The premier arrived in Karachi today and will be briefed about the law-and-order situation in the city. Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif were among those who accompanied him on his one-day trip to the city.
"Today, Pakistan is more stable and more democratic," said Nawaz during his speech today, adding that sound policies to counter internal as well external threats are bringing results.
Addressing the midshipmen from our 'brotherly countries' who were a part of the parade, Nawaz said he was confident that "the bonds of friendship formed at this level will augment friendship between our nations."
Nawaz said he was pleased to know that they were present at the event, adding that "the training they are receiving here would not only help them in professionally serving their nation but would also be a reminder of the long lasting friendship our countries mutually enjoy."

@Cyber Hindu:
Define "good and optimistic"
@Candid1: " This is in no way to adequately protect Pakistan’s coastline,...." Mercifully, it is not much more than that of the city of Erie, PA. Imagine if you had a coastline even a fraction of that of your nemesis!
It is idiotic lies such as these that erode people's confidence in the civilian leadership of the country. Even a casual review of Pakistan's naval capabilities shows how exposed Pakistan's maritime frontiers are. E.g. only 5 submarines against a requirement of 15. No nuclear submarine to counter the one Russia has given to India. There are only 11 major surface combatants out of a requirement of over 20, and of these except for the 4 F-22P frigates, all are more than 40 years old. There is only limited air support available for the navy, constituting one squadron of aging Mirage Vs, a few P-3C MR aircraft, and even fewer F-27s and ATR-42s. This is in no way to adequately protect Pakistan's coastline, its exclusive economic zone, or its sea lanes. So how does Sharif figure Pakistan's maritime defense is impregnable?
@Someone: Yes. Pakistan should emulate its Arab master Saudi Arabia or North Korea. After all, Saudi Arabia without oil is Pakistan.
@Amad Uddin: Nope. You are following the religion of your invaders.
Good to see that Pakistan is moving in the right direction under the visionary leadership of PMLN!! The military's top brass is now on the same page as political leadership, unlike the past when either the military was entirely controlling everything (under dictator Musharraf) or when it was on the driving seat with weak political government of PPP in the Centre. Pakistan is now moving towards peace with its neighbors (especially India) and the meeting of DGMOs has been convened after 14 long years of Musharraf (09 years) & then his NRO-beneficiary PPP (05 years). Due to a clear vision, political stability and regional peace endeavors, FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) is pouring in with initiation of mega infrastructure projects. Pakistan has improved both on the rating as well as scoring on Transparency Index, and also won the GSP Plus for big boost to textile exports to EU and now the stock market index (barometer of the economy) is scaling new heights. Long Live Pakistan!
You need to understand that no matter what, pakistan is never going to be invaded or attacked by india. its just not worth it as pakistan has nuclear weapons, thats the whole point; its a deterrance and prevents war. likewise pakistan will never attack india as india too has nuclear weapons. so all you people talking about india being able to do a naval blockade, its total fantasy, india would never dream of such a thing as it would lead to a full scale nuclear war, both countries would bomb each other back to the stone age thats the simple fact. india wouldnt win neither would pakistan. whats with all the hate, were the same people, the only thing that seprates us is a black line on a map. im pakistani btw..
@ polpot, @ Abdullah Why does ET always take our sleep away by reporting good & optimistic news about Pakistan?
Our Navy is nothing compared to foreign navies like the United States Navy or the Israeli Navy or the People's Liberation Army Navy (Chinese Navy). The Pakistan Navy needs to be modernized. It should be given a lot more funds.
First claiming Air defense as impregnable and now naval defense impregnable. Who is fool regime or the people?
@Someone: basket case? Read this. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/India-to-be-worlds-3rd-largest-economy-by-2028-UK-thinktank-says/articleshow/28059381.cms
@Ammar: For ex rulers of 1000 years standing... ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Pls read the number of hours of Loadshedding across Pakistan.... http://tribune.com.pk/story/651743/energy-woes-nationwide-electric-gas-power-cut/ Drakness within and darkness in surroundings.!
@polpot: @LunacyAsailam:
I dont want to write something here that ET would not be able to post...
And YES victory will be ours v soon IA...
For Muslims...i think i told you before that there are more than 20 independence movements in your Beloved country...that explains the case v well..
By making fun you are only exposing yourself, your frustration is valid as we have ruled you over 1000 years...and despite of your all efforts we are still alive...:)
Pakistan is there to stay Always IA...and remember its just a lapse of time before we rise back and punch you again...nevermind...;)
And still u r commenting on a Pakistani Site...we welcome you as being Pakistanis we Break Bones not Hearts..:)
@Abdullah: Paf does not need f16 only to defend or strike.jf17 is equally good for the purpose of defending coastal areas.mig29 is not such a capability that paf needs a specific fighter for the counter.its a digital world today and avionics suite with ECM capability is enough.thats the reason that today's f16 are not common to 80s f16 and they continue to serve even today as leading fighter of the world.
@LunacyAsailam: You are not alone, everyone in Pakistan tells their children nowadays that India is a classic example of a basket case that Pakistanis should not emulate.
Indian Navy is best in the world. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Even USA is jealous.
@Ammar: We like to make fun of Muslims...even Indian Muslims secretly are making fun of Pakistan, even though breaking barriers and social constructs is a difficult thing.It will take time, but its kindoff fun to watch Islamist states not being able to evolve.We feel happy that we have left you faar behind.
''today pakistan is more stable'' says shareef.... on what grounds. i dont really understand. either he meant pakistan by himself and his family or the 180 million suffering from the inflation and price hikes
Navy does an excellent job capturing unarmed Indian fishing boats = not sure it's worth the expense or capable of much else.
@Ammar: "y u indians have so much concerned about Pakistan??" ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Your comments are a Big Victory for Pakistan. Well Done.
@Abdullah
via our anti air naval missile defense systems and new Zulfiqar class Battleships which are tuned to counter air attacks.
best PM for Pk
Who cares what this dinosaur says?
"Pakistan’s maritime defense is impregnable" except for Navy Seal and Karachi Naval base. Does it also mean that in future no boat carrying non state actors will leave Pakistan for India?
Indian Navy has 45 Mig29 fighters whereas Pakistani Navy has no comparable aircraft to counter it. Heck even PAF has only 63 F16s but if they engage the Indian Navy than who'll engage the IAF.
@CK In the event of war, we would be the ones blockading India via Gwadar and the Strait of Hormuz. Blockading Karachi is pointless now, and can be dealt with with our new Carrier Killer cruise missiles.
I love my leader Nawaz sharif.
Pakistan's maratime defence is impregnable..........someone should explain to him what exactly he has said. Yes, its the holiday season but propriety demands sense be spoken.
PM has said it rightly. Insha Allah, all forces will prove their capability if time comes. Allah bless Pakistan Allah bless Nawaz Sharif
“Pakistan’s maritime defence is impregnable” - Nawaz Sharif. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Just like our air defense on May 2nd 2011.
@CK: and u r edward snowden...lol....
Our Navy can not even prevent a blockade by India during war, its an "open secret".
