ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed on Friday said that the independent judiciary would decide the fate of General (ret.) Pervez Musharraf.
"[However], the Prime Minister of Pakistan on sympathetic grounds, is ready to send a special plane or an air ambulance to bring his mother back home so as to continue her medical treatment in Pakistan and she could be with her son," he said in a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office.
Background
Earlier this month, Musharraf’s counsel had moved the court, stating that his client wanted to be with his 95-year-old mother in Dubai after his release on bail and that keeping his client’s name on the ECL was a violation of fundamental rights.
The Sindh High Court had dismissed the plea and advised Musharraf's counsel to refer the request directly to the government.

After getting assurance from the judge at residence of the outgoing CJ, NS and Nisar visited Simli Dam Rest House to put Musharraf there after handcuffing him in the court. But Musharraf has nothing to lose. He has already given so much to Pakistan, he can give his life too.
@ altaf Hussain
It is a shame that you raise the question of ethnicity here. If you must then just check on the background of the judges , prosecutor and media persons. They are all Punjabis
It is the tyrrany of the Pujabis that resulted in the creation of Bangladesh. And now they are at it again.
Musharraf 's Nov 3 2007 Proclamation Order was constitutional and in order under the advice of the PM. Cyclop Chaudhry forged a SC judgement on ordinary paper with no signatutres of some judges ( there was no Bench ) and Justice Rana Bhagwandas signed and dated it after two days. Jinnah gave Pakistan to rid Muslims of majority Hindu hegemony and Punjabis replaced Hindus as the tyrrany of majority Shame
With the entire parliament unanimous against the backdoor of coup d'état, the Supreme Court buried the doctrine of necessity forever and precedences available in so many countries which have punished their traitors (Turkey, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Chile etc) the vast majority of Pakistanis have ushered into 21st century Pakistan. The handful few still supporting dictator Musharraf are only those people who belong to his ethnic clan. They are blind-folded with ethnicity and can't face the reality.
@Aysha M:
Very well said.
@Breaking Bad: Musharraf has come by himself to face the trial. Why you think he would run away? Stupid people.
@NDC:
Those judges should be named and should be sacked and tried in the court. These judges could not give the judgement and would create chaos in the country.
@Aam Aadmi: "1. It is a fact that MNS was not allowed to visit his ailing father in Pakistan ."
You got your facts wrong. The elder Sharif was with the deposed PM in Jeddah and in fact passed away there. NS was permitted to accompany his remains to Pakistan but required to return to Jeddah, per agreement, immediately after soyem but he refused.
@Democrat: Because we still have people with the intellectual thnking of 19the century living in the 21st century. We have the possibility to travel to the future but have not yet the Time machine to go back to the past. I can assure you Sir, that once we have it, most Pakistanis will be the first one to qualify to be sent back to good old days.

@col Ishtiaq
Musharraf is not a begger, but NS is. NS begged to Musharraf in writing for himself and his family and ran away to SA.
What an irony of facts that the once almighty dictator Musharraf, who was solely deciding about the lives of others, is now begging for his own life!
It is quite intriguing that even in the 21st Century some people are supporting a Dictator, a proclaimed offender of high treason in Pakistan. These pseudo intellectuals should learn from the successful transition toward democracy and their treatment with the traitors in Turkey, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka or even Chile. Grow up folks!
if he is convicted...the all the action taken by after 7th nov becomes invalid including election of 2008,action of judiciary,promotion of Khaani as COAS etc
@ajnabi... Afia Saddiqui,. is American citizen not pakistani....
@Bilal: It is unfair to compare your Prime Minister with late President Mandela, who was a radical, extremist who took up arms against Apartheid and was regarded in the west including the USA as a terrorist, whereas Mr Shrif has not the slightest clue about resistance or aggression or military jingoistic profile being the straightforward industrialist and buisnessman political persona in toto.

@excalibur: one more thing to add. Family is more than just your children. NS has a big family. When an elder passes away it impacts everyone. Families look to each other for support. I'm sorry your family is not structured that way.
And as for him breaking an agreement, if you think that a father's death shouldnt be considered a special circumstance, I feel sorry for your family. Mush was scared of mass public support for NS, which is why he ordered a shutdown in the twin cities.
Mush once said that NS would never be a part of Pak politics again. Arrogance, what a dangerous thing. I'm no fan of NS. But what Mush did when NS's father passed away was despicable.
@excalibur: LOL! Yes Mush is so great, what a generous person not to let someone come to attend his father's funeral. Or to pay respects.
Mush lives in a fool's paradise. He sat in London around his cronies who kept "wah-wah"-ing him into thinking he has public support in Pakistan. He has NONE!! Only Pakistanis living abroad are deluded enough to think Mush is a savior.
The man who didn't add a megawatt of electricity when he had absolute power. The man under whose rule security went haywire. The man who curtailed basic rights, forced the judiciary out of power, imposed emergency. The man who gave unfettered support to the US, while getting nothing in return. These are the root causes of our dire situation. Not even the military is trying to get him released! They know what a disaster he is.
The good thing is he has enough time to think about his disastrous rule during his arrest. At least NS didnt throw him into a jail cell like Mush did.
It's karma time. Had Mush been less arrogant, perhaps life would have treated him better.
Musharraf must be punished for violating his oath twice. If not , the army will venture again. Military must allow democracy to propser and not derail it after every few years.Politicians are bad , very bad , all of them ---- but due to miltary due to which they did not grew, so army men are for sure worst in the long run, even if apparantly good in the short run.Because they are producers of bad politicians.
@ excalibur Probably you have gone too far in your hate against Mian Nawaz Sharif and forgot to address any of the points raised by @ pt. 1. It is a fact that MNS was not allowed to visit his ailing father in Pakistan . 2. It is a sorrow fact that MNS was not even allowed to attend the funeral of his father. 3. It is also a fact that Shahbaz Sharif's airplane was cunningly diverted towards Dubai when he had landed at Lahore airport. 4. Can any sane person deny the glaring fact that in order to prolong his rule, the Dictator entered into NRO Deal to waive off more than 8000 cases of corruption mostly against PPP leadership? Despite all these wrongdoings Mian NawazSharif has forgiven dictator Musharraf who had thrown him in exile for a decade. But Musharraf is involved in the crime of high treason against which the punishment is prescribed in the law of land. While we wish his ailing mother a good health please don't forget that "What goes around, comes around" is the law of nature!
Musharraf's a Billionaire why use taxpayer money to transport his mother?
@ pt get your dates right instead of passing on lies as facts
NS had no family in Pakistan , they were all in Saroor Place Jeddah with their 45 suitcases and a life of sing and dance
Musharraf was kind to have accepted Saudi request to allow NS to go to London to see Hassan Nawaz pretending to be sick True to his character ,he misused that gesture and rushed to Pakistan insulting the Saudis who had brokered the Agreement ubder which NS had agreed to stay out for 10 years Incesnsed on this breach of Trust Prince Muqrin flew to Islamabad and showed the Agreement to the Press publicly to nail the lies of NS
Short memory Pt ?
Who can trust NS. When the plane arrives, NS may allow that to land in Pakistan, rather may ask the pilot to take to India.
With Nelson Mandela passing away earlier this month, perhaps the PM learned a lesson from his life about moving ahead from the bitterness of the past.
@Dr.A.K.Tewari: Is it in the Ntional interest of Pakistan for His ailing old age mother to survive? We are all mortals and life after death is the integral part of Human soul. Be assured that the lady will stay alive as long as she wants to live!!.
Rex Minor
A noble and humanitarian gesture by Nawaz Sharif but the ailing Musharraf's mother should not be brought home in an unreliable PIA aircraft. Pakistan can seek help in this regard either from UK or India.
Wow, short memories everyone. Remember when NS wanted to visit his family and pay his respects to his father after his father died? His plane was forced back. Sheikh Rasheed personally had the door shut in NS's face. And a curfew was declared throughout Pindi and Islamabad. This was all covered live on TV.
Not saying this justifies what NS is doing now. But please stop thinking Mush is some saint. Karma - what goes around, comes around.
Best wishes to Mush's mother's health. Hope she recovers. As for Mush getting to spend time with her, it's his mistake to have returned to a country where no one cares about him (his popularity is mostly abroad) and where he is charged with so many crimes (the biggest crime is NRO, which brought the PPP disaster to the country).
@ajnabi: He did not sell ANY Pakistanis. What you state is another stupid lie spread around by Pakistani Islamist parties. Citizens of foreign countries were handed over to their respective governments and when those govts refused then over to the Americans. This what happened. Most of the Pakistanis at Guantanamo are there because they were sent over by the various mullahs to fight the Americans. The govt of Musharraf had no hand in that.
@Rex Minor:
utter nonsense of the highest order. if what you are saying is correct, is there a single conviction for the many stupid allegations you have levelled? or are you completely insulated from the concept of 'innocent until proven guilty.' you must live in the 3rd world given your mentality.
@Johar: He is innocent until proven guilty!! Get that through your thick skull. Secondarily, he is charged with a frivolous case of treason which is brought about by the state. As such the state is holding him up while his guilt is not proven thus the state needs to ensure he can meet his family and visitors. He is not a common criminal. For once it would be nice for people to understand the issue before commenting without knowledge.
@Rex Minor: I do venture into analyzing logic offered, that too cautiously, have not been able to judge any as twisted, though. Any executive confronted with war during his tenure has to take tough actions, even if it involves putting human life at risk,so did Musharraf, all in the national interest, not for personal gains. The 1999 event, was completely self- inflicted by the elected government, Musharraf was in the air, when realities changed on ground. About former Chief justice and son, it is now public knowledge of how corrupt they were, more to follow on them Yes, my country is under curse, of corruption, confusion, conflict and complexities, because of wrong choice of leadership. PM needs to show no mercy but let justice take place without exerting influence. Musharraf will survive inshaAllah
NS is trying to hid is criminality behind this good gesture. Musharraf should be a free man. He is not guilty in any case. All corrupt political leaders, mullahs, media and judges who have been looting Pakistan for decades are now against Musharraf because he wanted progress of Pakistan. The best era so far in the history of this country are considered either his or Ayub Khan's. What NS know how countries are ran towards progress.
His ailling mother needs an extra ordinary medical care to survive . Can the present Govt. ensure such medical facilities in Pakistan and in case any thing happened wrong then what compensation will be given .
Pure political move, nothing else

Lest we forget when NS had run away to KSA after seeking pardon from Musharraf and Saudi intervention, on the demise of Abba Jee Musharraf had magnainmously agreed with the Saudis that he may neallowed to go for the funeral but NS escaped to London instead of going to Pakistan Similarly Shahbaz Sahrif was allowed to go to NY for a heart ailment treatment. Again a drama was created that Hussain Nawaz was ill in London and NS was allowed to go.
Is that a private plane of his or one at the expense of public money? Why the generosity for the mother of an alleged criminal? If she's ill and wants to travel to Pakistan, the state must make it on the account of her being a Pakistani citizen and not publicize it as a generosity extended to its alleged criminal. Get out of "Abba Jee" and "Amma Jee" politics and set appropriate and constitutional precedence. Equality for all.
Nawaz Sharif is bent upon taking revenge from this great son of Pakistan. But God is great.
How cool PM you are :)
