Security forces have reached and cordoned off the area.
The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) has been called in as well.
Further investigation is underway.
Quetta is not unknown to violence as it has had several blasts in the past.
Blasts
On December 19, a man was killed and at least 25 people were injured when a bomb went off in the crowded Metta Chowk in Pashtunabad area on the outskirts of Quetta. According to the Pashtunabad police station, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) had been planted under a vendor’s stall in the crowded Metta Chowk.
On November 21, a deadly cycle bomb in Quetta had killed five people – including a seven-year-old boy – and injured 30 others. The BDS had said around seven kilogrammes of explosive materials were used in the bomb.
