Pakistan celebrated the event with patriotic fervour and a 21-gun salute was fired in the founder's honour at his mausoleum.
The Pakistan Army provided security at the ceremony which was attended by Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan and Karachi Additional IG Shahid Hayat, among others.
Major General Nazir Ahmed also held a parade and laid a floral wreath on the Mazar.
President's address
President Mamnoon Hussain said Pakistani people "have made many sacrifices, shouldering not just the burden of wars, but also various natural disasters."
He paid tribute to Jinnah, adding that the representatives of the people were working to bring Quaid’s dream to a reality.
Father of the nation
Jinnah was born in Karachi on Dec 25, 1876. He was the eldest of 7 siblings and received his early education in Karachi and Mumbai.
He went to London for higher education where he obtained his law degree in 1895. Jinnah joined the Indian National Congress in 1896 and became a member of the All India Muslim League in 1913.
In 1916, he was made the leader of the League in 1916, three years after he joined.
His health began to deteriorate in 1940 and he passed away on September 11, 1948, shortly after the creation of Pakistan on August 14, 1947.

As usual the prime minister and the president didn't find time to go to the mausoleum for paying homage to one of the founding fathers of Pakistan.

@Iqbal: First of all your analysis is full of istortions. Here is what the report says: Indian Muslims are twice as likely to be unemployed than Indian Hindus are.
The report also says: Among South Asians, Indian Muslims do better than Muslims from Pakistani or Bangladeshi backgrounds - and better than Sikhs.
The report is not a comparison but rather a statistical one. As Indian Muslims are a much smaller population than Pakistanis and Sikhs, the statistics and samples would vary and tilt to some extent which is the case here. As a small group, they are doing well, but that does not prove they are more well off than Pakistanis. The Pakistanis are a larger group and since the report relies on averages, the average would be low as the whole population is taken into account rather than focusing on the affluent class. And it is no secret that many Kashmiris from a rural background live in UK who are a part of this sample. If you exclude them, you would find that Pakistanis have better figures than Indians.

The majority of Indians overseas drive taxis or do menial labour jobs in the Middle East. The few rich ones who escaped India are an exception.
