Local body elections: Balochistan by-polls set for Jan 19

The process of submission will last two days from December 27 to 28.

QUETTA: The Election Commission of Pakistan has issued the schedule for the local bodies’ by-election in Balochistan, which will take place on January 19th, 2014. According to the schedule issued by the ECP, by-elections will take place in 569 constituencies and nomination papers will be issued by December 26. The process of submission will last two days from December 27 to 28. The ECP will display the list of candidates on the 29th of this month and any objections to the nominations must be submitted on the day. The ECP will scrutinize nomination papers from the 30th to the 31st. Candidates can withdraw until January 5th. “The ECP should be credited for holding free and fair elections in Balochistan. By-elections will take place in 569 constituencies in different districts, particularly in Harnai where elections were not held due to protests by political parties,” said Sultan Bayazeed, Election Commissioner Balochistan.
