Safety measures: Public holiday in Kohat for Chehlum

Kohat Division Commissioner Syed Jamaluddin Shah on Monday held a jirga in connection with Imam Hussain’s chehlum today (Tuesday). The jirga discussed peace efforts and decided that Tuesday would be a public holiday in the district and all government offices and educational institutions would remain shut. Shah said cooperation between various communities would help maintain a peaceful and congenial environment in the area.  Meanwhile, Kohat Deputy Commissioner Amjid Ali Khan imposed Section 144, thereby banning wall chalking, pillion riding, controversial speeches, gathering of five or more persons, public display of arms and sale of petrol-filled canisters till December 31. Anyone found violating the law will be punished under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
