KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has filed a petition in the Sindh High Court against the Sindh Local Government Act 2013 on Saturday.

JI Karachi ameer, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, who filed the petition in the court through his counsel, noted lawyer Rasheed A Razvi, said that the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party has committed ‘contempt of people’ by introducing controversial amendments in the local government ordinance without consulting other political parties and by finally, making them part of the law.

“This kind of democracy is akin to a dictatorship and the PPP is responsible for setting this worst precedent,” said Rehman while talking to The Express Tribune.

He said that the amendments as well as the law were the PPP’s endeavour to manoeuvre the upcoming polls.

“In times when free and fair electoral process is a must to strengthen the democracy, such manoeuvrings pose a serious a question mark on its future,” said Rehman.
