The body of anti-corruption department’s assistant director (legal) Altaf Khan Durrani, who went missing about a week ago, has been recovered from Mardan while the accused murderer has also been arrested.
An official of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) police counter-kidnapping cell said the accused, Zahirullah, was arrested from Hyderabad, Sindh earlier this week. He added Zahirullah had been residing there with his brother-in-law for the past few days.
“The accused called Durrani on his phone after which he left his office. He (Zahirullah) later overpowered Durrani and shifted him to Katlang, Mardan where he was beheaded,” said the official while narrating the circumstances of Durrani’s disappearance. He said Durrani’s head and body were buried separately in a nullah.
“Zahir then left for Hyderabad where his sister lives, but we traced him, and later arrested him,” he said, adding the accused revealed where he had buried the body. Police recovered the body late Thursday night.
