ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court is set to give its verdict on 18th Amendment case on 21st of October.

According to the Supreme Court Registrar Office, the Supreme Court has finalised the verdict on certain petitions challenging various clauses of the 18th amendment.

The Supreme Court had started hearing of the case on May 24 and it took four months on the part of both sides to complete the arguments.

One of the petitions deals with the judicial commission for the appointment of Supreme Court judges.

During the course of the hearings, the counsel for the Federation, Waseem Sajjad, referring to Article 239, said that the Supreme Court can't strike down constitutional ammendment.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court had reserved its judgment on petitions seeking to strike down certain provisions of the 18th amendment, especially those dealing with the appointment of top judges.

“The verdict would be announced at some appropriate time later,” Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, who headed the 17-member larger bench of the apex court hearing multiple challenges to the piece of legislation, had said.
