Moving towards the finalisation and disposal of pending high-profile case, the Special Committee of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has completed its first review of around 300 inquiries and investigations, The Express Tribune has learned.
Vital inputs on these cases are expected from the relevant wings and regions in one to four weeks.
“The special committee reviewed 300 high-profile cases, including inquiries and investigations, of top politicians, bureaucrats and businessmen,” a senior NAB officer told The Express Tribune on condition of anonymity.
The respective wings and regions have been directed to decide the following: whether any of the cases need a second review; if the status of some cases needs to be changed from inquiries to investigations; should a reference be filed in the court; or should some cases be closed.
The Special Committee had been formed by NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry but after he went on leave following the Supreme Court’s ruling in the NICL scam case, the deputy chairman, Admiral (retd) Saeed Ahmed Sargana, is revisiting these cases.
The Special Committee, now headed by the deputy chairman, comprising additional prosecutor general accountability (APGA), director-general operations, and two other DGs from across the regions has reviewed the high-profile corruption cases in the six meetings held so far.
The committee noted that many cases involved minor issues, and that is why they were still pending.
The committee has directed different regions to pursue those cases upfront and complete the recommendations for final disposal as soon as possible, officials said.

@Bono fist learn things then came on social media for discussion. Acting Chairman is there and NAB is working properly. @Administrator, there should be check and balance of comments instead posting blindely
Sharif and the Bhuttos are honest-everybody else is corrupt.
NAB has been become a committee for protecting the rich from losing their ill gotten gains. I will believe this to be a proper accountability bureau, when the Sharifs and Bhuttos/Zardaris are in prison.
@PakSky:
Sure, why not? As a PTI supporter, I welcome the investigation of anyone corrupt, regardless of party affiliation.
I truly admire the pain you feel in your heart for all the misery the corrupt, lying, cheating imbeciles are inflicting on our country. We need more honest and upright people like you to challenge and break the status quo.
Now, in the interest of fairness and intellectual honesty, please post a comment saying: I want NAB to investigate the Sharif family.
Thank you.
Hilarious to me. NAB putting up a press release effectively saying 'We're Doing Work.' Everyone knows it can't do a thing without a chairman, oh and all this while its investigating their last one. Good luck. It has been putting up self congratulations for a while now, for absolutely nothing but being a waste of the taxpayers money, like the people it claims to prosecute.
I hope NAB investigate the case of PTI's Sindh President. : Wolf in sheep's clothing
NAB is and will remain a toothless organisation, why? Because the head is appointed by non other than the PM. We need a better version of Lok Pal, like India, where even the PM is not immune from scrutiny. Until then NAB will continue to be used for petty political point scoring.
The highly politicized NAB has only a good media PR. NAB is mostly found to be helping culprits to get away rather than catching them.
Committee means "kaam-mitti", nothing gonna change.
