KARACHI: Corporate governance practices directly affect the strategic management of an enterprise and therefore awareness of governance-related issues is essential, according to Mehwish Bilal Khan from the International Finance Corporation.

Addressing economic journalists at a workshop organised by the Centre for International Private Enterprise (Cipe) titled ‘Effective Corporate Governance and Anti-corruption Stories’ at a local hotel here on Tuesday, she said that the public at large, and companies in particular, need to be aware about the basic running and control of an organisation as this directly and indirectly affects stakeholders.

Stressing on the need to be transparent and responsible, Nilofar Hameed – head of corporate governance at the National Investment Trust Limited – said that the private sector must realise its potential as an extremely effective global stakeholder in the fight against corruption.
