LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) on Tuesday condemned the hanging of Abdul Qadir Mullah and demanded that the government take up the matter to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

The general house meeting adopted a resolution in this regard and demanded the government send back the Bangladeshi envoy to Pakistan.

The resolution also called for an end to diplomatic relations with Bangladesh. Bar members paid tribute to Mullah and said he was a patriotic leader who had fought to keep Pakistan united.

The resolution condemned the government for remaining silent on the issue. It demanded that the government take up the matter at international forums to stop Bangladesh from hanging more people on similar charges.

The resolution was moved by Advocate Mian Muhammad Rauf.

Rauf said the tribunal that ordered Mullah’s hanging was illegal and unconstitutional.

Addressing the general house meeting, LHCBA president Abid Saqi appreciated Mullah’s efforts to stop East Pakistan from breaking away.

“The Bangladeshi government has violated human rights with this trial,” he said.

He said former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and former Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Mujeebur Rehman had agreed that no one would be tried for war crimes charges.

He said the Bangladeshi government had violated the agreement by hanging Mullah four decades after the alleged crime.

Advocate Abdul Rasheed Qureshi said India was behind the move.

He said after the emergence of Pakistan, India had been looking for opportunities to damage Pakistan.

He said India had occupied Juna Garh, Haiderabad and Kashmir illegally. He said India had helped disintegrate Pakistan.

He said majority of the Bangladeshis had been opposed to the separation.

Advocate Anwar Ghumman said Haseena Wajid hanged Mullah to please India. He said she would continue in the vein. He said lives of people who supported Pakistan were in danger in Bangladesh.
