Shane Shillingford was suspended from bowling in international cricket after the International Cricket Council (ICC) declared his bowling action ‘illegal’.

According to a statement issued by the ICC, Shillingford underwent a biomechanical analysis in Perth on November 29 after the West Indies’ second Test against India earlier that month.

His teammate Marlon Samuels has also been banned from delivering quicker deliveries after the same test. The two have been suspended from bowling in the past over their illegal actions. Samuels can face up to a 12-month ban if he repeats the action in the next two years, the statement read.

The analysis report revealed that the amount of Shillingford’s elbow extension in his standard off-break and doosra exceeded the 15 degrees’ level allowed by the ICC.

The bowler took six wickets in the ongoing New Zealand series but will not be available for the final match in Hamilton scheduled to start from Thursday.
