A United Arab Emirates (UAE) charity organisation al Zarooni Foundation has offered to contribute generously to welfare activities in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), according to an official handout.

The offer was made Saturday evening by al Zarooni Foundation Chairman Sohail Ahmad to Governor Shaukatullah Khan and Chief Minister Pervez Khattak in Pakhtunkhwa House, Islamabad for establishing quality education and health institutions and other welfare schemes.

Ahmad said his organisation, named after his father, has already constructed al Zarooni Mosque in Hayatabad, a well-equipped charity hospital in Karachi and is running an ambulance service equivalent to mini-hospitals manned with paramedic staff.

Ahmad, who is mentioned in the Guinness Book of World Records for establishing the first ever private museum in UAE with the largest collection of antiques, was educated in Pakistan and said he has a lot of family friends in Peshawar. He remembers having walked through the historic places of the walled city and thus has a special attachment with its people and the province.

Therefore, he wishes to work for preservation of culture, and the establishment of universities, medical colleges, hospitals, water supply schemes, mosques and such in K-P and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), the handout read.

The foundation’s chief sought the support of authorities in K-P, claiming that the talents of Pakistanis are second to none in the world, if given opportunities.

Both, the governor and the CM welcomed and appreciated the offer. They assured the government’s full support, pointing out that poverty and unemployment had made the people of K-P and Fata vulnerable to extremism, militancy and terrorism.

It was decided in the meeting that proposals will be made and discussed in the future meetings to materialise the plans.
