PESHAWAR: The district government has completed delimitation of Peshawar’s union and village councils for the upcoming local government (LG) polls.
According to the provincial focal person on LG, Faizullah Khan, “There will be 92 union councils, 127 neighbourhood councils and 197 declared village councils in the provincial capital.”
Khan added there will be 172 general seats in the neighbourhood councils, while 1,375 general seats will be for village councils according to the population ratio.
Khan also said the government has fulfilled the task of delimitation within nine days even though it was given a 20-day deadline.
The focal person stated December 22 was the date set for hearing complaints on the delimitations, following which Peshawar Deputy Commissioner Syed Zaheerul Islam will decide the matter after a three-day scrutiny process. “The final delimitation details will be released 10 days after that process,” he added.
The present delimitation has been displayed in the offices of union council secretaries and the DC office.
Meanwhile, a notification issued by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Local Government, Elections and Rural Development department has appointed the commissioners of Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, DI Khan, Mardan, Hazara and Malakand designated officers in their respective revenue divisions to divide rights, assets and liabilities of local councils, including adjustment of staff among the local governments.
