ISLAMABAD:

In order to improve the law and order situation in twin cities, the law enforcement agencies on Thursday decided that Quick Response Force  (QRF) of Pakistan Rangers would be deployed at three points in Islamabad, while CCTV cameras would be installed at all toll plazas.

Police officials from Rawalpindi and Islamabad met on Thursday to chalk out an effective joint-security plan and decide on elaborate measures to ensure the protection of life and property. During a meeting held at the CPO office, it was agreed by Rangers and the chiefs of the Islamabad and Rawalpindi Police that QRF would be deployed at important places in the twin cities.

These places include IJ Principal Road, Faizabad and D-Chowk.

The meeting was attended by Islamabad IGP Sikandar Hayat, Rawalpindi CPO Akhtar Umar Hayat Laleka, Rawalpindi Operations SSP Muhammad Maqbool, Rawalpindi Special Branch SSP Ali Mohsin, Islamabad Operations AIG Sultan Azam Temuri, and Islamabad Special Branch AIG Waqar Ahmad Chohan.

Islamabad IGP Hayat asked the police officials of both cities to enhance coordination and ensure prompt exchange of information. It was agreed that joint pickets at entry and exit points will be established and search operations in slum areas would be conducted.

He also wanted to constitute joint working groups of police and establish a joint wireless control room. Hayat said a patrolling mechanism for both cities is also being devised.

It was also decided that senior police officials of Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Pak-Rangers would conduct follow-up meetings on a monthly basis, while the special branch heads of both cities — as members of the threat assessment committee — would share information about new threats.
