BANNU: Three improvised explosive devices (IED) planted by unidentified militants on Bannu-Miryan Road were defused by the bomb disposal squad (BDS) on Thursday.

Miryan police official Mashal Khan said a pedestrian walking on the road spotted a suspicious canister along the sidewalk and informed the police at around 3pm. Subsequently, officials rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. Traffic leading up to the site was also suspended. BDS official Kismat Khan was called in and discovered militants had planted more than one bomb with secondary wires attached to other bombs planted at a different spot.

Kismat told journalists the remote-controlled devices were meant to target convoys of security forces and police patrolling the area. He defused all three bombs that were spread over a one-kilometre radius and explained each contained 10 kilogrammes of explosives.
