The jirga was chaired by former PPP MNA Muhmmad Khan Junejo, the brother of current PPP MNA from Sanghar, Roshan Deen Junejo. PPP’s MNA Malik Asad Sikandar, MPA Sikandar Shoro and Deedar Shoro, father of provincial minister Jam Khan Shoro, attended the jirga on behalf of the Shoro community. Meanwhile, renowned politician, Raees Ayub Chandio was representing the police personnel.
Four persons of the community, residents of Dabu Shoro village in Kotri, Jamshoro district, were killed in a police encounter at the Super Highway in June 2012. The police claimed that the slain persons were trying to rob goods from a truck and that they had opened fire at the police when they reached the site.
Members of the community had, however, denied the police version and an inquiry conducted by former Thatta SSP Usman Ghani Siddiqui had implicated 15 police officials in the killings. DSP Abdul Ghafoor Lakho, DSP Manzoor Panhwar of CID, Jamshoro police station SHO Saeed Channa and ASI Muhammad Ali Soomro were among the accused.
According to sources, the jirga fixed the primary blame on DSPs Lakho and Panhwar, who were directed to pay Rs2.5 million against each slain person. In return, the complainant, Munir Shorom will withdraw his FIR after payment of the penalty.
The Express Tribune tried to contact the lawmakers who reportedly chaired the Jirga but received no reply. Meanwhile, Deedar Shoro confirmed that the dispute between the two sides has been resolved.
