President’s Trophy: Anwar leads KRL onslaught against PIA

Helps team post daunting 419-run target in first innings.

KRL’s Saeed Anwar Jr scored an impressive 197 to lead his team to a daunting total of 419 for nine against PIA in the fifth round of the President’s Trophy match at the KRL Stadium in Rawalpindi on Friday.

His knock included 20 fours and four sixes, while Ali Khan (71) and Shoaib Ahmed Minhas (47) also chipped in with important knocks as KRL declared their first innings on day two. PIA’s Tahir Khan took four for 69, as the team were 18 not out at stumps.

In another match, Fawad Alam scored a century to help NBP gain a 156-run lead over UBL at the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad.

His knock included nine fours and a six, as NBP were all out for 285 in the first innings, with Atif Maqbool doing the damage with a five-wicket haul for just 88 runs. In reply, UBL were 55 for two at days end.

Meanwhile, Wapda took an 87-run lead against SBP as they ended day two on 259 for eight while replying to their opponent’s 172 at the National Ground in Islamabad.

Kamal, Talha hold PQA’s innings intact

Asim Kamal (61) and Mohammad Talha (46) were both unbeaten at the crease as PQA reached 357 for seven at stumps against ZTBL at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot.

PQA’s Khalid Latif scored 86 to open the scoreline while ZTBL’s Usman Shinwar took three for 102 as Haseeb-ur-Rehman bagged two scalps.

Meanwhile, SNGPL’s Sami Niazi took three wickets for only 28 runs as PTV were held at 133 for six in 55 overs at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.

Earlier, SNGPL were all out for 258 as Yasim Murtaza took five wickets for 43 runs, supported by Zohaib Ahmed who claimed four for 40. In reply, PTV was unable to manage a big partnership as Rizwan Ahmed (25), Akbar Badshah (33) and Imran Ali (20) all got out without  making any significant contribution.
