The exact details of those arrested are not known as yet, however, they are said to be associated with MQM and one of them was reportedly handling the party’s financial matters.
The police raided two houses in the city and arrested the suspects while also seizing a few items from the place.
The suspects – aged 40 and 70 years old - are now held at a police station and are being investigated.
British authorities had earlier informed Islamabad that its police found significant evidence against MQM workers in Imran Farooq’s murder case as well as against some MQM leaders in money laundering cases.
In August this year, MQM chief Altaf Hussain was investigated by the Metropolitan Police over the murder and suspicions of money laundering.
Murder
On September 16, 2010, 50-year-old Farooq was on his way home from work when he was attacked in Green Lane, outside his London home. The post-mortem examination revealed that he died from multiple stab wounds.

@True Karachiwala: keep on talking. Mr Altaf hussain why don't you come to Pakistan and face all the so call Conspiracies against you. thanks god Pakistani police is not involved in this case.
@Jane Jaan: Try writing something against your British "leader" and see if it gets published in, say, Karachi. Just saying....
Or better yet, go to liveleak.com and search for MQM torture cells. You will find some very interesting videos there. But you already know about those, don't you ?
@True Karachiwala: Thanks. This isnt half as bad. The worst was when somebody offered deep political analysis and said Aysha M is a man.
Comments at personal level for MQM supporters is reflective of ET policy toward this political entity
@True Karachiwala: I am increasingly convinced that prisoners of perrenial prejudice should not be dignified with a response
@Navaid: Karachi is Pakistan and its not going anywhere, you however are more than welcome to stay in it the way you want to.And if the need to protect its borders come,it will be protected with all cost and means. Mohajirs have alot of contribution in building Karachi like Sir Mustafa Kamal but no one ethnicity owns Karachi.Karachi is beautiful and its for all, don't let 1st generation politicians and cul leaders drive your thoughts.
@Navaid: ....dude, looks like you are HIGH.
.....calm down, it is not good for health you know.
.....Karachi will be the future of Trade, Investment, Culture, Tolerance, Education, Sports, etc. INSHALLAH, Karachi can & will be anything but a Republic.
....a republic is next to impossible even for the "confuse" of Balochistan let alone for some REFUGEES making Karachi a republic through a bayonet.
....thanks for the laugh though.
regards,
arrest, release, arrest, release, arrest, release... seems like great briton using the probe as the tool to keep the "organization" on its line
I get this very strong feeling that Uza Syed, Aysha M and Mrs Ahmed are the same person. The same, lonely, sad man who earns his income from the 'Brothers' by impersonating 3 different people on tribune forums. Seriously, the childish responses from this person(s) are always on the same wavelength, repeating the same content in different words, over and over again. Nice Try MQM Social Media Team. You had us going there for a while. But the question remains. Why does this sad, lonely, possibly delusional and borderline paranoid man uses there female aliases..... what kind of deep dark fantasy is he living.... One begins to ponder.......
@islooboy: bright days are about to come for Pakistan because the reign of MQM is coming to an end.
Having PML N in centre, PTI in KPK, PP in Sindh is not enough to make days bright for Pakistan ? So I infer it's only MQM left which can bring bright days for Pakistan as it has not headed any provincial or central government
@Kaptan Khan: Who wants MQM in Karachi??
Forgot so soon the demand for election under army supervision and subsequently PTI candidates saw one of the most humiliating defeats. Any way who made you "Kaptaan" ?
@Asad Khan: @Saleem: @naeem khan Manhattan,ks: @Karachiite: @PakistaniLoyalist: @Pakistani1: @Salman Hussain: @Troubled: @Sirf Pakistani: @pakiboy: @Kaptan Khan: @islooboy: @logic: @Faisal: @SK: @Wajad: @Fact is Fact:
Your SY comes every after few months with its "findings" & "suspects". But what it has done is to focus on money laundering charges instead of murder investigation. This change in focus of investigation was disappointing for you, but still you kept your hopes alive to hear "MQM banned". We know almost every Pakistani who lives abroad is involved in money laundering in a sense that they do not use proper banking channels for remittances (what to say of our PM and other politicians). But again your hopes seem to have a short life as the "suspects" have been bailed. I am sure like those pople who initiated conspiracies, operations, and defamation against MQM some 20 years ago, you too in future when there are grey hairs on your scalp will ponder over your this wishful thinking and admit silently to your yourselves that you have been defeated, INSHA ALLAH.
The Mohajir Republic is coming, and soon you all will need a visa to enter Karachi.
@Asad Khan: Actually, Karachi is the Land of the Mohajirs, simply because nothing can happen in Karachi without our permission, and soon, Karachi will be the future capital of the Mohajir Republic..........it's coming, don't worry.
@malik59: Thanks for writing down the names. Looks like ET did not have the courage to write down the name.
@Tanzeel: Await for the time of conviction. Please.
I really don't see much substance in this news. We have a habit of getting over excited and build up our expectations..........only to be let down.
pakistanis get arrested and deported daily in some western country or the other...!!!
@Fact is Fact: Everyone knows what everyone does in Karachi. MQM is no exception. The reason MQM gets the most flak is because it is the dominant party. All of the ethnic groups are involved in milking Karachi. However given that MQM represents the interests of the Urdu speaking people, that is a hard pill to swallow for the "sons of the soil".
Other groups are "trucking" people into the city to change its demographics to their favour. There is bhata khori conducted and condoned by all of the parties with presence in Karachi because they all maintain gangs of criminals to do their bidding. Lets not single out MQM. Its plain old ethnic racism as evinced by the multitude of posts here.
If there is a bhatta khori accusation against MQM which so many of you tout day and night, then also be magnanimous and gracious enough to accept the positive work done by the MQM in the past 20 years. Karachi has transformed through the hard work of the MQM party workers and governments. The fact that most comments here ignore the positives tells me clearly that the agenda is nothing more than the old "bash Urdu speakers" which has been set in our sick minds from the days of Liaquat Ali Khan and propagated during the Ayub Khan's government.
The only satisfactory situation for the "sons of soil" will be to see the Urdu speakers become meek and acquiesce to everything that they want. Until then, expect nothing more than constant ongoing "bashing" of Urdu speakers and MQM. Perhaps this is the reason "Clean up" operations are launched so easily in Karachi, yet FATA and KP get a pass despite the fact that the violence and militancy there is an existentialist threat to Pakistan.
Sabir Nazar has very aptly described this hypocrisy and double standards toward Karachi in this comic strip: http://tribune.com.pk/multimedia/slideshows/639336/
@Uza Syed:
...calm down little Sister, no need to spew foam.
SUSPECT : a person thought to be guilty of a crime or offence.
ARREST : An arrest is the act of depriving a person of his or her liberty usually in relation to the purported investigation or prevention of crime and presenting (the arrestee) to a procedure as part of the criminal justice system.
BAIL : Security, usually a sum of money, exchanged for the release of an arrested person as a guarantee of that person's appearance for trial.
Mohajir (REFUGEE) : A refugee is a person who is outside his or her country of origin or habitual residence because they have suffered (or fear) persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or because they are a member of a persecuted 'social group' or because they are fleeing a war.
If anyone should be shameful is the "Personalities" that are suspects in the said case and the ones who bet their politics on them.
Karachi is a damn big place, it is a rainbow of Pakistan, no single entity can claim Karachi its wholesome property and yet EACH and EVERYONE of us has got an equal ownership...
.....I mean, that is fair, isn't it?
regards,
Boring..........this is the same old same old news we've been hearing for a very long time now. Folks, the MQM is a very powerful political front, and they have massive lobbying power at the international level. NOTHING will come of this.
@mrs ahmed: this isn't the right response.its called the Muhajir card and when all else fails its predictable for MQM trolls to use it..I have nothing on the mohajirs and have ample Mohajir friends but no way am i going to stay silent against an intimidating, extremist, violent, extortionist mafia and their ring leader and racketeer,Altaf Hussain.
Who owns the expensive villa at 120 Abbey View, Mill Hill, London? What is the source of funds to purchase this property? What is the source of income of the owner of this property? How did this money reach London?
@Uza Syed: So you think MQM has not done any killing, extortion and bhatta etc in karachi.. if you say no that means you have not come across people who have experienced it. Do you also think MQM wins elections without rigging then you are ignorant because this has happened to a lot of people like me when they threatened us. You do need to think neutrally and not like a MQM supporter.
Surprisingly, Scotland Yard that claims to be the best police in the world, has failed to bring the killers of Dr Imran Farooq to justice todate. Justice delayed is justice denied!
It looks there is no dearth of the hired commentators to write filth. Let them see what has happened in India inspite of all the hired Congress commentators and social media fillers, Modi is on the top.
@Uza Syed: this is the right response , thank you ,
Is British government playing politics with people of Pakistan? After every few months, london police throw some bait to anti MQM people and they cheer up and applaud london police. But london police should know most of our talk show anchors are doing the same thing.
take off the news ET or put on the bail news, buhat hogaya
The two people arrested have been released in the meantime but who cares. Met police officer Richard Jones said the SUSPECTS were moved to a police station in Central London following their arrest. Both, however, were released on bail later, he added.
Shame on you, each and everyone of you!
You keep on creating such malicious fiction & use it as a whip to lash us the supporters and voters of MQM (vast, huge majority of the people of Karachi) who you consider easiest target of your hatred & wish to be made an example of, so you go public. Who could do this job better than Express Tribune and what could be the better stage, then this open forum to spew all kind of anti Mohajir propaganda.
Shame on you!, each and everyone of you!
@naeem khan Manhattan,ks:
Ayesha is working on her resume to give it to Mustafa Kamal.
Where is Ayesha? Please humour me now.
No matter how much we may hate Jamat e Islami for its policies but there is no denying the fact that Karachi was the city of lights under Jamat e Islami and has turned into city of death under MQM. What a shame for us all as a society.
@PakistaniLoyalist: Allah maaf karey....but ur spot on!
@hmak:
Thank the shopkeepers and businesses of Karachi for paying the bail money
Most of Altaf bhai's jobs are done by his loyal servants so our dream of seeing him behind bars remains a dream for now
Our hopes are pinned on obesity !!!!
Zulfiqar Mirza said it, Imran Khan said it, MQM's ex militants claimed it, Mustafa Kamal showed it, Now UK Police is proving it, this is a CRIMINAL & TERRORIST party
Awaiting Altaf bhai's servants to come on TV claiming this all to be a saazish for all the sacrifices they have given for this country LOL.
i wish pakistani media to be bold.they talk about true and pure journalism but arent bold enough to tell the names of those two detained persons .definitely they are scared of the terrorists in Karachi.
MQM : a party thats openly involved in spreading hate, sectarianism, calling its own country "blunder", money extortion, kidnappings, land grabbing, money laundering, killings and the famous body bag business
Awaiting comments of MQM members calling it a saazish by establishment of Pakistan & UK
I used to once like MQM for its urban outlook in very agro based political scene of Pakistan it arrived as freshener. Then came time the time when MQM had resorted to a financial plan whereby party and workers expenses were met with the public donations, mostly involuntary. Time passed MQM lost its charm and I started disliking it. However, never knew what is the alternative, Jamat-e-Islami was one choice for the middle class but then it had too much inclination for its vested interest and Salafi thoughts. Then it had betrayed people lot of times. Until PTI emerged and I knew that this is the party that I can support. Unfortunately PTI was disappointment so it is back to square one, NO other choice but MQM! Very Very sad but true at the same time.
Yes those are the similar words used By Salman Butt, the Pak Captain "Accused not convicted". The trail of booties and bhatha is coming to the endstrong text@Tanzeel:
@Asad Khan: WELL PUT, most countries do not even allow dual citizenship let alone a dual national in politics. For some people there are only 3 countries USA, UK, Canada on earth, they will keep giving examples of these 3 countries while ignoring rest 160+ countries. Also, i hope dual nationals check remittance figures it is almost 100% from Gulf countries where all pakistanis hold only Pakistani citizenship. Westerners live with their family in countries of citizenship hence no point of remitting anything to Pakistan or paying any tax. Renounce your nationality if you want to enter politics, how simpler can it get
@R: Oh Please, have a look at the remittance figures, it is over 90% from the middle east, none of those hold dual nationalities. In fact, dual nationals are mainly in western countries living with their families. Why would they send money to Pakistan ??? Also, india and other poor countries doesnt allow dual nationality did they default before this IT boom ???? IF dual nationals want to come to pakistan politics, renounce your foreign citizenship, simple as that !!
@TON ...Tariq Mir and Asif siddiqui are arrested .
@mrs ahmed:
BTW the police did call any TDH willy-nilly for money laundering charges through its (ATU).
BTW the origin of the news is not the "Blood Thirsty" Pak media, it is from UK media, or to be exact the Metropolitan Police.
BTW through the same "Blood Thirsty" media MQM advocates, rebuff, weeps, criticizes & broadcast its political views.
....sorry mate, but you were little "fizzle" while in your views.
regards.
What a shame. nothing surprising though.
@Tanzeel: yeah whatever, that's all you've got to say!
@R: ...Overseas residents plays a major role in any Country but it is not THE only factor. However, if one is a citizen of USA then he must pay income tax even if he resides & earn in foreign country.
Further, No country allow dual national to take part in politics let alone letting them sit in Parliament.
Israel for some time in early 50s have this exception but it is now sealed finished. All the lobbying it does now through lobbying firms and diaspora linage.
The world is not simple as you put it.
regards,
@mrs ahmed: Its not about who is doing what. I don't care what Sharif, Zardari or Altaf has.. I am concerned by them all and if one person gets convicted, it will be a good message to the people inside pakistan to choose a proper leader. I don't care if Altaf has peanuts as compared to others. A crime is a crime and should be convicted. Every body knows what MQM does in Karachi and if u feel this is anti-mqm, i am sorry to say, you are still ignorant
Bailed now..
Now bailed... watch news MQM all the way.......
@jaane jaan Hats off, thats the truth
@Jane Jaan: thankyou for one realistic comment , BTW , the two people who were asked to come to police station for some questioning are already released , note that they were not arrested as it has reported by blood thirsty media in Pakistan , Living here in the UK , i am well aware police works very cautiously , they first need to have very solid evidence and crwon prosecution service looks at the case then only it is sent to the courts and if they find police not on solid grounds the case is turned on the police , so anti MQM people and media rest assured nothing is going to happen , and if as it is reported 400000 were found , it is p-nuts against the monies sent illegally by all the sharifs and zardaris and their cronies . dont worry just another fizzle out, soory anti MQM media and people no time for you all to rejoice.
@Jane Jaan: The news is interesting because MQM head is in UK and therefore if convicted will pay consequences of his actions and will effect karachi politics in a good way. Other leaders you mentioned are unfortunately inside pakistan and the system is not that strong in pakistan to convict those. The real problem seems to be the voters of pakistan who always vote for the similar people even though they know about them.
Arrested not convicted. Anybody could be arrested for investigation even Nelson Mandela spent 3 decades in Jail.
MQM Titanic is going to be down in deep sea after the resignation Former Mayor and Other important personalities of MQM
i am more interested in return of this money to Pak rather its staying like Koh e Noor diamond with looters
The only interested thing in this news is MQM and is therefore very interestingly posted by Express tribune. We know for years the Real Money Launderer like Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif, Benazir, Zardari and lot of other Chaudharys and Waderas but the news will never get the attention of our Elite and Enlightened Media and the Punjabi and Sindhi blood thirsty generations.
All those criminals who destroyed Pakistan belongs to either Punjab or Sindh but they have become the champions of Patriotism and their men/ women in media are spreading the same concept. A propaganda by either a punjabi or a Sindhi is in itself a lie.
Et seeing Sharif in my letter will definitely not publish it. A challenge.
Waiting for JUSTICE...
I am so happy. The end is near, we must celebrate!
awaiting Ayesha M & Uza Syed to refute these claims.
MQM is the roots cause of instability in Karachi. I wish this terrorist organization gets banned forever as well.
@karachi Man
If it wasn't for overseas Pakistanis, the land of pure would have defaulted long time ago. Most countries in the world allow dual nationality and encourage political activities of the emigrants.
What does associates mean here? That they perhaps were supporters and might have voted for MQM, but how do you implicate a political party with crimes of one, two or ten of its voters? This is not right and this is not what fair and unbiased reporting or journalism all about and an entity like Express Tribune with its standing and reputation might want to review and control the enthusiasm of some of its reporters who certainly are biased and seem agents of some political rivals of MQM.
Why is to so that whenevr Altaaf Hussain makes a certain "kind" of speech, some steps are take by the SY against them? Coincidence??
Can someone tell us the names of the ones arrested now? another news item mentioned that Altaf bhai has called an emergency meeting at London with Babar Ghori, Farooq Satter, and likes..
Who wants MQM in Karachi?? i dont atleast. This incident is just the milestone, this party wont stay long further..time has to come, when people of Karachi will live in peace!!
@Wajad: London will stop it once the righteous citizens of karachi would up their voices and stop voting them
bright days are about to come for Pakistan because the reign of MQM is coming to an end
@Masood Khan: yes.. everywhere.. esp in karachi
Brave attempt from ET to publish this news..applaud!!
Foreign nationals should not be allowed to lead political parties, like in most countries
Please return this money to its rightful owners that is the hard working shop keepers and businesses of Karachi
It seems some one in London would soon need services of a corporate lawyer. Criminal lawyers can wait for their turn...
Another feather in the already decorated MQM cap!!!!!
@Fact is Fact: Banned in the UK?
oops!!! is it just the beginning of the end for most "popular" party?
now the 79% Pakistanis will start day dreaming !!! lets see how we go !!!
London should stop its citizen to fuel violence in Pak fro UK territory
Now MQM shud be banned as a political party first thing and then crack down on them for possession of illegal weapons
