ISLAMABAD:

Violence against women can leave deep psychological scars while also compromising their health and security.

US Ambassador Richard Olson said this while talking to students of the English Access Micro-scholarship Programme (EAMP) at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) on Wednesday. He was the chief guest at an awareness activity, “Pledge against gender-based violence”.

EAMP is a two-year programme for under-privileged students to provide them with an opportunity to learn about US culture and values.

Olson said that it was encouraging to see young students showing activism against gender-based violence. “I hope, through art work, poems and speeches, the students will be able to send a message across to build a society based on harmony,” he said.

Earlier, EAMP students delivered some thought-provoking speeches and recited heartwarming poems.
