Pakistan Muslim League-Functional's (PML-F) MPA Nusrat Seher Abbasi submitted the motion.
Two attacks in four months on the news agencies offices are because of the failure of the government and security authorities, the MPA said, speaking to The Express Tribune.
On Monday, at least four armed assailants riding motorbikes threw two home-made bombs and had fired at the entrance to the building. A security guard, Faizan Ali, was injured as a result.
Press freedom organisation Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) joined Alliance for Access in condemning the attack on Express Media Group office.
The CJP said that they were appalled and disappointed by the lack of security provided to the office in Karachi, despite being under constant threat.
They termed Monday’s event as an attack on independent and progressive reporting in Pakistan.
The Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) had also condemned the attack on the Express Media Group building and voiced solidarity with the group.
An emergency meeting of the body was held, and it was decided that a media convention for the protection of editors, journalists and workers will be held in which representatives from political parties, all journalist organisations, human rights organisations, social organisations, NGOs and prominent citizens will be invited so that a comprehensive strategy could be devised to tackle such situations in the future.
