ISLAMABAD:

The capital’s model colleges on Tuesday called off their strike after “successful’” talks with the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) following academic disruptions which led to the postponement of mid-term examinations in the city.

The teaching staff of 20 model colleges went on a complete strike against the expected merger of federal government colleges with model colleges, hiring allowances and promotion issues.

The group of teachers of model colleges met CADD Secretary Faridullah Khan who announced on the spot that the process of hiring allowances be initiated in the next 24 hours and directed the Federal Directorate of Education to speed-up the upgrade so it could be discussed with the finance division.

About the uncertain fate of daily wagers, Khan said nobody will be moved till a decision is made by the Islamabad High Court.

Central Academic Staff Association President Muhammad Rashid Khan was heading the teachers group and expressed satisfaction over the meeting. “About the creation of posts, the secretary assured us of 4,000 posts and will discuss the matter with the finance division,” he added.

On one of the teachers’ main concerns, the merger of federal government (FG) and model colleges, the secretary assured that no merger was taking place. Instead, he said, a uniform curriculum will be introduced. “The curriculum of model colleges will be introduced in FG colleges to ensure quality performance,” he said.

Moreover, the Departmental Promotion Committee meeting will be held after every three months to discuss and mutually solve these issues.
